Delphi, the famous Cultural and Touristic destination in Greece, is located at the foot of Parnassus mountain range that towers over 500m above sea level. The historical center of Delphi is an Archaeological Site listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Delphi was named by some historians as the “Center of the World”, since it was believed that this area was exactly at the middle of the world.
We will wait for you at your hotel lobby, to pick you up.
During our tour we will visit:
The Tholos of Delphi is among the ancient structures of the Sanctuary of Athena Pronaia and was built around 380 BC. It is a circular temple, called a tholos, which means ‘beehive’ in Greek and refers to the shape of its dome. The Tholos is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and can be visited on an organized tour led by one of our licensed tour guides.
Delphi Archaeological Museum is one of the principal museums of Greece and one of the most visited. It is operated by the Greek Ministry of Culture. Founded in 1903, it has been rearranged several times and houses the discoveries made at the Panhellenic sanctuary of Delphi. The museum mainly displays statues, including the famous Charioteer of Delphi, architectural elements like the Siphnian Treasury frieze and ex-votos dedicated to the sanctuary of Pythian Apollo like the Sphinx of Naxos.
Delphi is a magnificent archaeological site that’s among Greece’s most iconic places. It was once a sacred precinct that served as the seat of Pythia, the major oracle who was consulted about important decisions throughout the ancient classical world. The Temple of Apollo, god of music, harmony, light and healing occupied the most important location in it.
After visiting the site we will stop for lunch at Delphi.
On the way back we visit Arachova a small traditional village in the Parnassus Mountains of Central Greece, near Delphi. Known for its handmade carpets, it is on the slopes of Mt. Parnassus, at an altitude of 1000 meters. Because of its panoramic view, uphill small houses, and cobbled streets, during the last decade, it has been transformed into a cosmopolitan center of winter holidays .
